MEETINGS
The Celebrate Recovery group meets every Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Faith Evangelical Free Church, located at 1009 Maryland Highway, Mtn. Lake Park. For more information, persons can call 301-334-4172.
Finding Hope to Cope, a support group for families with addiction problems, meets every Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mary Browning Senior Center, Oakland. A cancer support group meets the first Tuesday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and the third Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the board room at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Anyone who is impacted by cancer is welcome to attend. No reservations are needed. Light refreshments are served. For more information, person are invited to call 301-533-4133.
The Preston County Alzheimer’s Support Group  meets from 7 to 8 p.m. at Heartland of Preston County, 300 Miller Road, Kingwood, W.Va., on the third Monday of the month. For more information, persons can call 304-329-3195.
The Garrett County Alzheimer's Association Caregiver Support Group meets at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, 1113 Mary Drive, Oakland, on the third Wednesday of every month at 2 p.m. Light refreshments are served. An Alcoholics Anonymous group meets at the Liberty Club, 125 Liberty Street, Oakland, every Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m.; Sunday at 6 p.m.; Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8 p.m.; Wednesday at noon; and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. A women’s group also meets in the club’s back room every Thursday at 8 p.m. 
The McHenry AA chapter  meets Tuesdays at 8 p.m. at Deep Creek Baptist Church, located along Rt. 219 across from Uno’s. 
An AA group meets on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the lower level of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church parish hall, located at 208 South Fourth Street, Oakland.
The Oakland Al-Anon Family Group meets at the Liberty Club (use side entrance), 125 Liberty Street, Oakland, every Monday at 8 p.m. 
A Narcotics Anonymous (NA) group meets every Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the  Liberty Club, located along Liberty St. in Oakland. For more information, persons may call 301-334-1298. Another NA group meets every Saturday at 6 p.m. 
Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are currently held at three locations in the Grantsville area. Into Action meets at Christ Lutheran Church, 180 Main Street, Grantsville, on Mondays from 6 to 7 p.m. The Freedom Group meets at Oak Dale Community Church, 9201 Mason Dixon Highway, Salisbury, Pa., on Wednesdays from 8 to 9 p.m. Another AA group meets at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 122 Main Street, Grantsville, on Thursdays from 8 to 9 p.m.
The Keyser Area Mental Health Support Group meets the first and third Monday of each month in Patchett Hall at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Keyser, W.Va., at 6:30 p.m. The group is a peer-led, nondenominational organization free and open to anyone. The Reedsville (W.Va.) Volunteer Fire Department meets the first and third Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The RVFD Ladies Auxiliary meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. For more information, persons can call 304-864-6741.
DINNERS
St. Paul’s Relay For Life team, Ring for Hope, will host a traditional English tea this Sunday May 21, at 1 p.m. at the home of Liz Hodges. The menu will consist of English tea, cream of crab or cream of pumpkin soup, scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, tea sandwiches, chocolate-covered strawberries, and assorted desserts. Tickets are $25 per person. Persons are invited to contact Hodges at 301-334-2252 or Terry  Riley at 301-334-5684 to obtain more information about the event or to purchase a ticket.
The Loch Lynn Church of God’s Helping Hands Ministry provides a free meal for those hungry for food and/or company through its Feed the Flock program  on the first Wednesday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Divine Hope Church, 110 Weber Road, Mountain Lake Park, holds its Soup Kitchen on the third Tuesday of each month from 4 to 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. More information is available by calling 240-321-4673.
CHURCH EVENTS
Terra Alta Church of the Nazarene Church, 606 Brandonville Street, Terra Alta, W.Va., will hold "Sunday School Emphasis"during the month of May. Scheduled for all Sundays in that month will be a breakfast in the fellowship hall from 9 to 9:30 a.m., a praise and worship service in the sanctuary from 9:30 to 10 a.m., Sunday school from 10 to 11 a.m., and preaching services at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend. 
Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, Eglon, W.Va., will hold its annual Great U.S. Rt. 50 Yard Sale and barbecued chicken dinner this Saturday, May 20, in the new Family Life Center. A silent auction will also be held. The yard sale will take place between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., and chicken dinners will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The suggested donation for a meal is $9. All proceeds will benefit the Family Life Center, located beside the church, 3075 Maple Spring Highway (Rt. 24).
Bear Creek Church of the Brethren, Accident, will hold its monthly community dinner on Saturday May 27, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the new fellowship hall. There is no charge for a meal, but donations will be accepted. Proceeds will be used to purchase items for Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. The public is invited. The church is located off Accident Bittinger Road at 1088 Brethren Church Road.
Amboy (W.Va.) United Methodist Church will hold a yard and bake sale on Friday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, June 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hot dogs, chili dogs, and sodas will also be available for purchase. The church is located along the Aurora Pike, approximately three miles from Rt. 50.                
Fairview Church of the Brethren will hold "Maker Fun Factory Vacation Bible School: Created by God, Built for a Purpose" Monday, June 12, to Friday, June 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for children age 3 and older. A kick-off event is scheduled for Sunday, June 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. A dinner, inflatables, and a petting zoo will be featured. Church of Latter-Day Saints missionaries conducts classes on the Book of Mormon every Saturday from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at the Ruth Enlow Library in Oakland. The classes are free and open to the public. Friendsville United Methodist Church and the Accident Evangelical Lutheran Parish are sponsoring a Friendsville Community Kids Club. Gatherings are generally held the first Sunday of each month at Grace Lutheran Church, Friendsville, from 3 to 5 p.m. Children of all ages are invited. Snacks and all activities are free. The annual reunion for relatives and friends of the late Carl Wade and Ruth (Abernathy) Shaffer will be held on Saturday, May 27, in the Maple Spring Church of the Brethren’s new Family Life Center, Eglon, W.Va.
