FINZEL — The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration began an emergency drainage repair today on eastbound I-68 (National Freeway) in Garrett County near the Allegany County Line.
All lanes of eastbound I-68 will be closed just after the entrance ramp from MD 546. Eastbound I-68 traffic will detour through the Finzel Truck Weigh Station and return directly onto eastbound I-68. The left lane on westbound I-68 will also be closed. Crews will work 24 hours a day until the repair is complete.
The work is necessary to repair a drainage pipe that runs under the eastbound lanes of I-68. The State Highway Administration’s contractor, First Fruits Excavating Inc. of Ridgeley, W.Va., will use signs, arrow boards and barrels to guide motorists safely through the work zone.
The State Highway Administration understands this work will inconvenience some travelers and asks all motorists to please stay alert, slow down and be patient as you pass through the area.
