TERRA ALTA, W.Va. — James “Jim” Claude Beckman, 71, of Terra Alta, W.Va., peacefully passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, at Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland, with his loving wife by his side.
Born May 26, 1952, in Oakland, Jim was a son of the late Claude Franklin and Almeda Ellen (Murphy) Beckman.
Jim proudly served in the United States Army as Military Police in Frankfurt, Germany. He retired from Garrett County Public Utilities and was currently employed at Alpine Lake as a security guard. Jim was a past member of the Deer Park Sportsman’s Club and current member of the Deer Park VFW post 10077. He was an animal lover, caring for his goats, horse, chickens and dogs, Roxy, Bella and Tator. Jim also was an old model tractor enthusiast, especially Internationals, and was a fanatic about guns and CB radios, going by the handle “Jungle Jim” for years.
Jim is survived by his wife, Brenda (Curry) Beckman; brother, Wayne Beckman, and wife Janie; sisters, Judy Sweitzer and husband Dave, Sue Wolf and husband Lee, Donna Tasker and husband D.L. and Barbie Poffenberger and husband Eddie; brother-in-law, Bradley Curry, and wife Maggie; and several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and -nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, Leona Sweitzer and husband “Porge,” Mary Simms and Sally Hardesty.
To honor Jim’s wishes, the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home in Terra Alta will provide cremation services.
Friends and family may call at the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home on Saturday, April 6, from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. time of service, with Pastor Sam Moon officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Garrett County Honor Guard and the WVANG Honor Guard.
